Rick played bass and violin in Family on their fist 2 albums and of course their first single (see Dave Mason sessions), before he joined Blind Faith, Ginger Bakers Airforce and Traffic, see respective sections. He started to work on a solo LP in the autumn of 1969 of which 2 unfinished tracks showed up on the Blind Faith CD as bonus tracks. "The last five years" is a collection of material Rick recorded with the before mentioned bands.

The only non-formative member of Traffic that stayed longer than Dave Mason in the band. Lived in Sweden when Traffic played there in 1971, jammed with them on stage and joined the band shortly after. The 1973 LP features only Swedish jazz musicians. After Traffic he joined the German krautrock band Can together with Rosko Gee. Reportedly recorded with the band Zahara in 1982, which is unconfirmed.
